Cari Patterson

Director


Cari PattersonCari has a Masters’ Degree in Community Psychology. Her training in community-based research has enabled her to work with community groups on a range of projects, including needs/resources assessments, program design, program evaluation, and organizing for social change from an experience-based perspective. Cari has worked in the area of child and youth health, sexual and reproductive health, preventing violence against women, promoting mental health, and advocacy work, particularly for youth and people in marginalized groups. She has a special interest in rural community development.

Her passion for community development began with her love of community and her deep respect for the journeys communities share in their efforts to make their worlds healthy and strong. The heart of her formal training began in Nova Scotia, and has continued through twenty years of community development work in Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta, and Nova Scotia. Cari has a strong respect for the diverse perspectives people bring to the table, and an ability to validate and work with differing interests and needs.

Cari is a member of the Canadian Evaluation Society (Nova Scotia Chapter), and a member of the American Psychological Association Community Psychology Division 27 Society for Community Research and Action. She is also a co-opted member of the International Association for Community Development. She lives near Canning in the Annapolis Valley, and enjoys hiking, gardening, reading, and eating good dinners with friends.
