Featured Work

Supporting groups advocating for social changes is an integral part
of all of Horizons' work, whether it is with community volunteers, service
providers, cross-sectoral government committees, researchers, or groups
of people with varying backgrounds.
Horizons has delivered workshops for increasing community members’
skills to influence public policy and develop advocacy strategies (for
a variety of audiences and purposes). We have delivered the workshop
to the South Shore Active Communities project (physical activity), the
Nova Scotia Safety Council (injury prevention), and Community Links
(community-based transportation). The workshop encourages participants
to explore their understanding of advocacy and public policy, identify
the stakeholders involved in the process, and to develop a step-by-step
advocacy strategy for creating change to improve their communities.
